Previously CHRD and other Mongolian NGOs have encountered difficulties in running public interest litigation because of restrictive legal standing rules (the rules which determine who can take cases to court). As a result, cases which have the potential to achieve significant public interest outcomes have not been run. Because of this, CHRD is currently finalising an advocacy paper on international best practices in relation to legal standing. The paper will support CHRD’s other advocacy activities which will be aimed at introducing legislative provisions providing for more flexible, open standing rules (allowing anyone, including NGOs, to initiate lawsuits).
Based upon this paper, CHRD is planning to organize a public seminar and meetings with relevant stakeholders in June, in order to gather information and hear public opinion using media and our networks.
